My Background

I am always learning. As a professor of education working in rural villages of Africa to urban neighborhoods in the midwest, I am passionate about walking with and learning from teachers and education majors on our ever-challenging, yet always rewarding educational paths. As a former elementary teacher, I was surrounded by individuals who dedicated their lives to impacting students. Now as a professor in higher education, I've had the great pleasure to work with colleagues to help prepare thousands of current teachers who are passionately serving in today's classrooms.

It's my ultimate goal to help prepare, support, and inspire others in becoming highly effective teachers who will change the lives of their students.

I'm an associate professor and dean for the Franks School of Education at Trine University in Angola, Indiana. I’ve blogged for BAM Radio Network, the world's largest educational radio network. I'm fortunate to have been honored by Phi Delta Kappa International as an Emerging Leader in Education, and I was the recipient of the Excellence in Teaching Award by Ball State University and Trine University. I love speaking around the country on best practice teaching strategies and research that focuses on how mentoring, gender, race, culture, and social-emotional intelligence can impact the classroom.

I'm blessed to spend time with my incredible wife raising our two young children.
